What kind of candidates are you looking for? Are there any prerequisites or prior experience needed? We're looking for open-minded and curious students who are looking to grow socially and professionally! We in Optimir value hard-work, punctuality, and the drive to make your mark. You do not need to have prior experience - we pride ourselves on our New Member Training which will catch you right up, leaving you ready to tackle your first project!
-
I'm a transfer, can I still apply?Yes! We know that great consultants come in all different forms, so we're more than welcome to transfer students. We consider all candidates equally, regardless of year.
-
I'm not a business major, can I still apply?100% -- Optimir is designed to provide an introduction to all students, regardless of major. We value the diversity of perspective differing majors can offer and we work tirelessly to ensure that any and all majors can flourish professionally and socially within Optimir!
-
What is the time commitment for a new member?Expect to spent around 5 - 7 hours a week with Optimir material. This includes project meetings, general meetings, New Member Training, and weekly socials.
-
What are coffee chats, and are they mandatory?Coffee chats are your chance to learn more about Optimir, up close and personal! Although not mandatory, you'll be able to meet with a board member who will be able to answer any and all questions you have regarding Optimir. Try to schedule a coffee chat with someone with shared interests or whose professional goals align with yours!
-
How do I sign up for a coffee chat?Click on the "Coffee Chat" button on the Home page!
-
What should I prepare or bring for a coffee chat? The only thing you should bring to a coffee chat is any questions you may have about Optimir! This is your chance to learn as much as you can, professionally and socially.
-
What’s the difference between the two info sessions? Do I need to attend both? The joint infosession will be held with various other consulting clubs - a great chance to get a taste of Berkeley consulting club culture! Our Optimir-specific infoession will just be about Optimir. It is not mandatory to attend both, but we recommend attending at least one as a way to immerse yourself in Optimir culture and meet our members!
-
What is included in the application, and how long does it take to complete? The application is comprised of 3 short essay question and a resume + transcript drop! In total, the application shouldn't take longer than 1 hour.
-
When is the application deadline? The application is due January 31st, 2025 at midnight!
-
I applied last semester - will that affect my chances? No - each recruitment cycle runs independently, so we won't hold any previous considerations against you. We do encourage to learn from your past considerations, using them to improve your application!
-
What is the format of the interview? Is it behavioral, case-based, or both? The interview will be 1 hour total and a mix of behavioral and case-based questions - we encourage you to practice using the S.T.A.R method for answering behavioral questions and going over basic case questions to practice.
-
Is the social round evaluative, or is it just for us to get to know each other? The social round is designed for you to get a taste of the Optimir community and for us to see how you work in teams! Just be yourself and we'll take care of the rest :)
